Liz Fentress

Liz Fentress is an award-winning playwright with extensive experience as an actor, director, and teacher, in professional, community, and educational theatre. Liz recently moved home to northern Wisconsin after a 40-year career in Kentucky; Lake Superior had been a character in her early life and Liz missed her.


September 2020: Liz will be in residence at the Tofte Lake Center outside Ely, MN, working on her new full-length play.

October 2019:
World premiere of an ensemble adaptation of Liz's play Liz's Circus Story at Mercy Academy Theatre, Louisville.

July 2019:
Liz's new full-length play NEUTRAL POSITION will be part of the
Derby City Playwrights'
2018-19 Season including developmental workshops and will be in production at Louisville's Bard Theatre in July.

December 2018: See Liz in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at Stage One Family Theatre.

- Liz will be in residence at Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, FL, conducting playwriting workshops for the Theatre Dept.

June 2017:

April 2017:
Liz has been elected to serve as the Kentucky Regional Representative for the Dramatists Guild of America

March 2017: World premiere of Liz's play Stages of Bloom at the Public Theatre of Kentucky in Bowling Green.

January-February 2017:
See Liz in John Lennon and Me at StageOne - Family Theatre in Louisville.

November 2016: Join Liz at St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, where she'll be working on a production of Amahl and the Night Visitors with life-size puppets commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II for the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Concert Hall on the Thames in London.

February 2016: See Liz as Julia Claypool in the Louisville premiere of Walter May's new play Gone Astray at the Bunbury Theatre directed by Steve Woodring.

July 2015: Staged reading of Liz's new full-length play Stages of Bloom at Studio Players in Lexington.

October 2014: Enroll now in the University of Wisconsin Department of Continuing Studies Online Playwriting Workshop. Work on your play with Liz at your own pace.

May 29-June 1, 2014: Join Liz and her teaching partner Bob Curry in Madison for the Wisconsin Wrights: Playwriting Intensive.

September 2013: Catch Liz as Auntie Rabbit in The House at Pooh Corner at StageOne - Family Theatre.

June 2013: A monologue from Liz's play The Honey Harvest is in the new MotesBooks anthology Scenes from the Common Wealth - Short Plays & Monologues by Kentucky Women. The anthology is available at Amazon.

June 2013: Join Liz for "How to Write a 10-Minute Play," a course developed for high school drama, English, writing, and humanities teachers, at the UW Drama Institute 2013.

July 2012: Join Liz for Fundamentals of Directing at the University of Wisconsin Drama Institute.

October 2011: World premiere of Liz’s new play Strike Zone at The Bard’s Town Theatre.
